There is no official national “No. 1” ranking
Nepal does not have an official body that names one photography studio the permanent national winner. Search positions, social follower counts, awards in advertisements, and a handful of highlight images are not reliable substitutes for due diligence. Treat “No. 1” as a comparison question: which team has the strongest evidence for your ceremony, venue, budget, preferred style, and delivery requirements?
Start with complete wedding galleries
Ask each shortlisted studio for at least two complete galleries, ideally from weddings with a similar culture, venue, lighting, and guest count. A full gallery shows whether exposure, skin tone, focus, composition, and editing remain consistent from preparations through a dark reception. It also reveals whether the photographer records family interactions and rituals—not only staged couple portraits selected for social media.
Match the team to your rituals and schedule
A Nepali wedding may include events at different homes, overlapping rituals, rapid family-group changes, and ceremonies where photographers must work without obstructing priests or relatives. Share a written event schedule and ask who covers simultaneous moments. For a multi-day or large wedding, confirm whether the quoted team size is enough for preparations, the ceremony, candid family coverage, formal portraits, audio, and video.
Check the backup and file-safety plan
Professional reliability is visible in the questions a team can answer before the wedding. Ask about backup camera bodies, spare lenses and flashes, dual memory-card recording, battery and lighting backups, the plan if a photographer becomes unavailable, and how files are copied after the event. The contract should identify the responsible studio and explain what happens if coverage or delivery cannot be completed.
Compare written deliverables, not package names
“Gold” or “premium” means something different at every studio. Put each quotation into the same checklist: coverage dates and hours, named lead photographer, team size, edited image range, highlight-film length, full-film length, audio, drone conditions, album size and pages, travel, overtime, taxes, revision limits, preview date, final delivery date, and cancellation terms. This exposes missing items and makes prices genuinely comparable.
Verify reviews and recent work
Read recent reviews across more than one source and look for specific comments about communication, punctuality, conduct during ceremonies, image quality, and delivery time. Ask permission to contact a recent client when the booking is high value. Review dates matter: current galleries and current feedback are more useful than an old award badge or an unsupported claim printed on a studio’s own website.
Use a simple weighted score
Score each shortlisted team out of 100 using the same weights: 30 points for complete-gallery quality and consistency, 20 for experience with your rituals and venue conditions, 15 for the coverage and backup plan, 15 for contract and delivery clarity, 10 for verified recent feedback, and 10 for price-to-deliverable fit. Change the weights to match your priorities, then meet the leading team before paying a deposit. Comfort and communication still matter because the photographer will work close to your families throughout the day.
